Living in the Meuse

More and more expatriates are tempted to settle in the Meuse region.
Matchless scenery, marked seasons and wide-open spaces for walking, hunting and fishing make for an ideal place to live.
If you want to take the leap, here’s some useful information :

Residency Card

Since Law °2003-1119 dated 26 November 2003, concerning immigration regulations, having a residents card is no longer mandatory for members of the European Community.

Driving Licence

You reside in France and hold a licence delivered :
- by an EU country
- by an EEA country

Driving licences from EU and EEA countries are valid for driving in France and conversion to a French licence is not mandatory.

Vehicle transfers

If the vehicle is imported from an EEA country and is a recognised model (case of vehicles greatly commercialised in exporting countries or France) :

To register your vehicle, you must have either :
- an original or duplicate copy of a conformity certificate delivered by the maker or its representative. This certificate allows for direct registration at the prefecture (« carte grises » service)
or
- a certificate of identification if you don’t possess the afore mentionned certificate. You can obtain this document throught the DRIRE by filling out an identification request, orthrough the maker, if it is French or its accredited representative in France in all other cases. In the event that the maker sends you a techinical certificate instead of an identification certificate, the vehicle must be receptionned by the DRIRE.

Social Security for EEA members

As a general rule, when you come work in France, you no longer depend on your country’s social security, you depend on France’s.

There are a number of documents that you may need to live and work in France.

These forms are deliverd in your country by the competent social securtiy and labor institutions.
